...isn't it? It seems to me that in Canada we have 3 topics that are taboo in the workplace. I'll venture to say that in America there is only one. In Texas, the Republicans talk about politics at work - like isn't Obama crazy? - and the Democrats tend to avoid the topic, knowing they are not a popular crowd here. I think creation of this kind of discomfort for minorities is what makes Canadians avoid talking about religion at work. The surest way to being a tolerant, agreeable Canadian is to avoid topics on which you disagree at a fundamental level. In Alberta only 42% of people agree that religion is an important part of their daily life. In Texas, it's 74% and of those people, only a small percentage are not Christian. So is it safety in numbers that has everyone talking about religion at work in a way that assumes everyone is Christian? Am I the only one who finds this kind of out of office reply unusual?
